I have been thinking a lot about motherhood. I think for most of us when we think “motherhood” we think “love”.

A special kind of beautiful power lives in the love that grows people.

When we mother what we are really doing is watering our people with love. So that kindness may grow there. And humanity. And caring. And strength. What we are really doing is uplifting and empowering. Sometimes what we are really doing is just holding hands and sitting with one another in the dark times.

And while on this day of mothers we celebrate it in the most familiar sense..we think of our mothers and our children in all the beautiful ways those relationships shine brightly. Or we think of those who have longed for or lost or fallen away from motherhood.

I say yes to that. All the yes. And I also say here’s to all those who mother one another. Here’s to those moments when we step in to mother our friends and loved ones, to mother our mothers, or to mother strangers who have never known what that love feels like. Here’s to the moments we must mother ourselves. Here’s to all the moments and all the seasons in our lives when we give the kind of love that grows people. The kind of love that leaves an imprint on us.
