Happy Blog Hop!!

Recently I’ve been all a flutter about documenting dialogues.  There is just something so enchanting and so charming and also so revealing about the things we say and hear every day.  These little conversations really color our stories so much.  And it’s that soundtrack of chatterings that I felt compelled to share about in my contribution to Everyday Storyteller (which is so very nearly here!!).

And if there was one little nugget that I would share with you at this moment about documenting dialogue it would be this:  There are always opportunities to preserve the daily “things we hear” if we tune in.  Think outside the box and take advantage of technology when documenting the special sayings and conversations that live in your everyday.

Make use of technology: the notes or voice record capability in your cell phone, applications, and social media to get these things done *as they happen* so you can scrap them later.

For example, on President’s Day when my daughter uttered these words:”Daddy could be president. But he doesn’t have a president outfit.  You really need a tie for that.”  I *knew* I needed to scrap this giggle-worthy moment.  I knew I *needed* to remember just how she delivered these lines.  It was too endearing, too sweet, too humorous and too much an example of who she is at this moment in time for me to risk letting this gem fade into the sea of Other Moments.

But we were out grocery shopping at the time.  So how was I to be sure I would remember this memorable scrappable quotable?  Never fear!  I simply shared the quote as a Facebook status right after I stopped chuckling.  And then I used my Momento app to look back and snag it when I was ready to scrap it:

Today I’m so so thrilled to be sharing this as part of a fantastic blog hop FULL of little tidbits just like this from the contributors to Everyday Storyteller, the new scrapbooking idea e-book (I’ve been excitedly chattering about here and here).

And we’re feeling a little extra celebratory as the launch party  is nearly here!  The whole shebang kicks off at 8:30pm CDT on Friday, May 4. There will be more than $700 in prizes given away from our sponsors during the party.  Which is pretty awesome.  You can join the VIP list {HERE}.

AS I was walking my granddaughter to school she told me that she wished she was a dog. When I asked her why, she said it was because they could poop anywhere they liked and didn’t have to eat their dinner.

I love the layout you did for your moment. 🙂 I have one from several years ago that I still need to scrap. My DD was talking about being able to use either hand for something, and she couldn’t think of the word “ambidextrous,” so she said “bi-handual” instead. We had quite the laugh about her new addition to the english language, and I jotted it down on a scrap of paper that I still have tucked away.

Most of my memorable quotes are little tidbits from my children. So honest and pure yet my experience and time make them absolutely hilarious! For example, my 14YO DD said to me (when she was only 18MO) in the kitchen–Mommy, will you get me some straw-me (strawberry) milk? I responded with in a minute because I was working on supper. She then said in her best mommy voice—Now be a good girl mommy. Precious!

The saying I would love to scrap is something my DD said the day before yesterday, she was watching television and then all of a sudden there was nothing to see and the thing she said was: “Mommy we have burglars, they stole the tv show!!!” It was just plain hillarious, love my DD!! I love this poem!
As from the house your mother sees
You playing round the garden trees,
So you may see, if you will look
Through the windows of this book,
    Another child, far, far away,
    And in another garden, play.
But do not think you can at all,
By knocking on the window, call
That child to hear you. He intent
Is all on his play-business bent.
He does not hear, he will not look,
Nor yet be lured out of this book.
For, long ago, the truth to say,
He has grown up and gone away,
And it is but a child of air
That lingers in the garden there.

My daughter has so many great one liners and I really need to remember to write them down more often – using apps is a great idea.
Here is an exchange I did remember to capture
Elizabeth to me: “Mom, I can tell you aren’t a true Mealiea”
Me to Elizabeth:”That’s because I started out as a Larson. How can you tell a real Mealiea?”
Elizabeth: “Daddy isn’t as much a Mealiea as he used to be. When you married him you stole some of his Mealieaness”

such good advice, and so many cute and hilarious stories!

The one I love the most from my children, is the one that made me decide to try a project life type project this year: my 5yr daughter Eden has wonky hair. It is VERY slow growing, and its fairly curly, but she twists it around her finger as she sucks her thumb, and then her finger gets stuck, so she pulls the hair out to get her finger out. One side of her hair is always thinner and shorter than the other as a result of this habit! She wants long, dark hair, and is always asking me if it has got darker yet (like her big sister, and her best friend’s hair!). One evening, she had been using the scissors for some project she was doing, and her little 3yr brother came over, got the scissors and snipped a bit of her hair!! I wasn’t really paying attention until she crossly told him off, saying “don’t cut my hair J, that’s not very nice”, and then in a quieter little voice she added “Hevenly Father likes my hair just the way it is”

My son: “I’m serious. I lost about 1/3 of my belly.”

We were out on a hike and my husband and I were trying to decide which trail to take when my son chimed in with “Let’s go to the car and get the ‘help-us” it will tell us which way to go”. He was talking about a compass, but after that day we always called it a “help-us”. Thanks for the chance to win!

The other day Max said, “So mom, I’m the snuggly one…Jack’s the nice one…you’re the cute one…and Bapa’s the bossy one. Right?” Totally made me giggle the way he sees our family.

“Mom our eggs hatched at school today. ,We had a Siamese twin chick, but It passed away. We are so lucky to have had the chance to see this, because Siamese twins almost never happen.” No boring science for my ten year old.

I regret not thinking of this sooner! The only one I have written down that is fairly recent that I intend to scrap is what came out of my 8 yr. old son’s mouth. Son: I could just hug you all day! Me: If you did that you would be missing school. Son: And that’s the whole point!

Here I thought he was being sweet and cuddly, and he was just being anti-school. It may not sound extremely funny, but it is so my son. He is also always on a rant how unfair it is to have school five days a week and only two days for a weekend.

My husband’s friend looked at me and said, “Man, you’re getting fat.” I’m expecting and I guess I’m starting to show. I’ll add a layout to the baby’s book about it.

A favorite thing that my son would say when he was younger ” and you know what mom”. He would always say this in the middle of a story- I think to make sure I was truly listening!

I scrapped already when my son told me he decided on a Halloween costume- his choices were robot or leopard. He said I want to be a leopard – you know like the ones that watched over the flocks at night when Jesus was born.

My daughters when they were younger said “just get some money out of the beep beep machine”, when I would say that we didn’t have the money for whatever it might have been. They thought there was an unending amount of money you could get from the ATM machines. Tried to explain that I could only get some if I had enough in our account. Thanks for the opportunity to win this awesome looking book.

Mine was when my five year old told me she was so over having a baby brother. I asked her what we should do with him. Her reply, “Grandma can him. She seems to like him A LOT!” Too funny, we had a laugh over that because not only was the quote priceless but so was the expression on her face. Later she said it was okay, we could keep him after all. Because if we didn’t what would we do with all his toys?

When my oldest son was little and being obstinate or naughty I’d tell him “Stop, or I’ll jerk a knot in your tail!” That worked very well until he turned 4 and finally figured it out. My second son (and youngest child) was similarly swayed until he was just under 2 when he turned and grinned at me and said “Can’t! Ain’t got one!” It never worked again.

My favorite quote would be of my son when he was very young. While we were swimming in our pool, we noticed he was getting lots of freckles from his time in the son. He called them “frinkles”. 🙂

I scrapbooked my son and his little friend at their lemonade stand. They were only charging 25 cents for a cup of lemonade and my son said, “It’s not really about the money, it’s about making people happy.” I thought that Quote from the Lemondade Stand was priceless.

My 3 year old son says hilarious things every day, and I forget so many of them because I don’t record them right away! Great tip!! Recently he asked me “Mommy, what are those?” (pointing to a pair of my underwear) I told him they’re underwear that big boys and girls wear, because we go in the potty and not in diapers. I’m desperately hoping he’ll “get the clue” SOON and be interested in potty training, can you tell?! Anyway, he responded with a totally UNinterested “Oh, that’s nice.”

My favorite quotes I call “Marinisms”…my daughter has always been very profound.

On gossip (age 5) – just cuz you hear it doesn’t mean you have to tell everyone
to her brother regarding homework that he didn’t do (age 7) Its a mature decision you make in the journey of life.

On meeting Travis Knight (owner of LAIKA studios) – I climbed the mountain to my dreams and skiied all the way down to success.

I could go, can you tell I am a proud momma! Congrats on being a featured artist in the book. I can’t wait to see it!

    I don’t have an absolute favourite, but a recent one goes like this;
A group of adults in our family were reminiscing about P&P and the characters therein. Someone asked the question “What about Mr Darcy’s aunt? She was called Lady…?” My 7year old felt he was so helpful chiming in with “GaGa?”
